Retiring TIF Diversion Considered

It's not often that the city of La Crosse has a TIF district retire.  The special taxing districts are controversial for being a source of what is often criticized as public financing for businesses.  TIF 4 retires next year.  And a new idea would allow the city to use a windfall of money from the TIF to rehab houses.  Councilman Dick Swantz says one Wisconsin city has apparently done that with success



The city council finance committee considers the TIF money diversion idea at a meeting tonight.
