Inmate hangs Himself In Monroe County

The Monroe County Sheriff's Department along with the Wisconsin

Department of Corrections are looking into the death of a Monroe County Jail inmate.

Sheriff Pete Quirin tells us that on Saturday night, a 23 year old man was found hanging from a bed sheet and unresponsive in his jail cell at around 6:15 p.m. Emergency medical staff responded and took the man to Mayo Clinic in Sparta, then flown to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. The man was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.

The man, from Hammond, Indiana, had been arrested by Sparta Police a couple of weeks ago. He was released, only to be arrested again and jailed the following day for violating his bond conditions.
