Dems Want Vouchers Scrapped

Democrats traveled statewide Monday trying to persuade republicans to scrap a budget proposal to increase school vouchers and put more money into school aid. Representative Jill Billings says the La Crosse School District and other area districts will feel the financial pinch if more vouchers are approved.

Democrats want to expand state aid by $275 a student, much higher than the $100 increase Republicans offer for this year, and $150 the next. The assembly will start voting on the budget today.
