Tree On Fire...Lightning, Gas Lines Blamed

What could cause a tree on a La Crosse street to catch on fire, with flames shooting 50 feet into the air?

The fire department believes that lightning started the blaze, and a broken natural gas line fed the flames. Firemen were called to the scene at 9th and Ferry Streets, around 2:30 on Sunday morning. The gas lines which helped keep the fire going were about three feet underground. The lines were shut off, so the fire could go out.
