A More Permanent Drilling Ban

Having a giant oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico is bad enough.

Having one off the coast of Door County would be tragic for people in Wisconsin. That's why Milwaukee assemblyman Jon Richards wants a state constitutional amendment that would ban Great Lakes oil drilling off of Wisconsin's coasts. Even though there's already a congressional ban on drilling in all the lakes.   Richards says, as an act of congress, it could be repealed at any point.

Richards felt compelled to prepare a constitutional amendment after a Wisconsin US senate candidate earlier this month was accused of supporting drilling for oil in the Lakes.
