No Ethics Meeting in Sight

A meeting for La Crosse's ethics board has yet to be scheduled. Months have passed since Mayor Matt Harter said he would ask the city's ethics panel to weigh in on his potential conflicts of interest regarding conversations with his father and the county solid waste director. Now an outside legal opinion says he actually violated city ethics codes. Still, no meeting scheduled for the board, according to city attorney, Stephen Matty. Matty also confirms for us that it is only the mayor who has the authority to appoint someone to fill a months-long vacancy on the ethics board. Making that appointment ahead of the board sitting in judgement on the mayor seems highly unlikely.
