Another Tie Chicken Vote Could Require Mayor
If the La Crosse city council stays evenly divided on the backyard chicken issue, one guys vote could become all important. Mayor Matt Harter could kill or save the backyard chicken proposal. We asked where he's at on chickens right now. He says he believes very strongly in property rights but when you choose to live in a city you give up some of those rights. At the same time, Harter likes a provision of the proposed ordinance that would require a yearly renewal of an application for chickens and that neighbors would have to agree to the application. Harter says he'll wait to see how the debate on chickens goes tonight before the final vote on the issue. He doesn't believe that vote will be split evenly as it was on Tuesday.
