Push Helpers On The Road

When artist John Pugh was recruited by the La Crosse Arts Board to do a

three-dimensional mural for downtown, part of the deal required Pugh to choose local apprentices to help him with the project. Those two apprentices are getting ready to work at Pugh's California studio for four weeks.  Shelby Phillips and Alyssa Shurbert-Hetzel both study art at U-W-La Crosse.  Pugh will train the students in the technique of creating 'trompe l'oeil, an optical illusion.  Pugh's work of art will be installed on an outside wall of the Pump House in May, and will be dedicated in June.
