La Crosse Excells In Zero Deaths

Highway officials in Madison have been promoting a 'Zero in Wisconsin'

campaign, aimed at eliminating all traffic deaths in the state. So far this year, one-third of the counties in Wisconsin are still at zero.  La Crosse County is one of the largest in the state which hasn't had a fatal traffic accident in 2014.  The county's five-year average is nine deaths on the road.  The statewide traffic toll five months into the year is still a little behind last year's rate, which was the lowest since 1944.  However, the summer months in Wisconsin are the deadliest on the highway, with the highest number of deaths reported in August three of the last four years.
