Sparta Man Hit With Bean Bag....Needs Bail Now

A 33 year old Sparta man needs $2500 cash bond to get out of jail after his

weekend arrest. 33 year old Philip Smith was formally charged Monday after a standoff with Sparta Police Officers. Smith has been charged with intentionally pointing a firearm at another person and operating a firearm while intoxicated. According to Sparta Police Department release, officers responded to a call Friday that Smith was threatening to load his guns and kill people. The Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit was called out to the 1900 Block of River Road. When Smith would not put down his gun, police said they deployed flashbangs and chemical munitions into the house. Police said Smith came outside, but refused to cooperate. They used less lethal bean bag rounds before taking him into custody. He'll be back in court June 30th.
