BROWN DEER, Wis. (AP) An audit in the aftermath of a Brookfield spa shooting last fall that left four dead recommends that Brown Deer police increase their training in how they respond to domestic abuse calls. Radcliffe Haughton killed his estranged wife and two other women before killing himself Oct. 21 at the Azana Salon & Spa.
Brown Deer police had previously responded to domestic abuse problems between the couple, in some cases doing nothing. In one 2011 case officers thought they saw Radcliffe point a gun at his wife from a window at their home. But they eventually retreated because they said they couldn't confirm the object was a gun.
The audit recommends the police department institute more training in responding to domestic abuse calls, and retrain officers to write clearer police reports.

Ten million dollars in potential development might be hard to pass up...
That's the estimated value of homes being proposed for the vacant Park Plaza property owned by La Crosse County. The county administrator, Steve O'Malley, says both the county and the city will have to approve the new development. O'Malley presented the 800-thousand dollar purchase offer to county supervisors last night. He considers the offer 'very positive,' partly because the prospective buyers are not asking for TIF money or other subsidies from local government.
