Anybody who smokes and is NOT trying to quit appears to be in the minority these days...
The Centers for Disease Control tell us that about 55 per cent of adult smokers in America made an attempt to quit last year. Wisconsin smokers were slightly above the average, while Minnesota and Iowa saw about 50 per cent of their smokers make attempts to stop. Maryland has the highest percentage of smokers trying to break the habit...66 per cent.
(AP) The Minnesota Supreme Court says a man's online post calling a doctor ``a real tool'' is protected speech. The high court on Wednesday dismissed a case by Duluth neurologist David McKee, who took offense when a patient's son posted critical remarks about him on some rate-your-doctor websites. Those included a claim that a nurse called the doctor ``a real tool.''
(AP) Gov. Scott Walker says he wants parents to have the broadest possible spectrum of choices when it comes to educating their children. The Republican governor spoke Wednesday at a school-choice event in Milwaukee. He said his goal is to improve public schools, but when there's not enough improvement families should have other options. School choice includes voucher programs, in which the government helps pay for tuition at private schools, including religious schools.
(AP) School districts across Wisconsin canceled classes as the National Weather Service posted a winter storm warning for much of the state.
