Eleva Man Dies In Truck Crash
An update now on a fatal crash that happened in Trempealeau County Friday afternoon.
40 year old John Lawson Jr. of Eleva died after his truck was hit by an SUV that had been rear ended by a semi on Highway 10 near Strum. Lawsons pickup rolled over several times and caught on fire. He had been thrown from the truck.
The driver of the SUV, 66 year old Ronald Harper and the semi driver, 31 year old Jason Kluender, were not injured. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Mississippi Swimmers Ticketed After Massive Police, Fire ResponseLa Crosse police have cited seven men and one woman after a swim in the Mississippi on Saturday. Police say, Saturday afternoon, a couple people jumped in the water at Pettibone Park to swim across. Apparently, looked like a good idea for some others. Eventually all eight got in, although a couple of them came back after getting tired. Eventually 15 police and fire vehicles and three boats responded to the river to rescue any of the swimmers. All eight survived. All eight collected $177 disorderly conduct tickets. Kloppenburg To Run For Court Of AppealsThe Wisconsin Court of Appeals District 4 includes Lacrosse County. Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg says she wants to represent the area and others as she has announced she will run for theopening on the Court of Appeals which was created by the retirement of Judge Margaret Vergeront. Kloppenburg also announced her campaign committee will voluntarily limit all contributions to her campaign to $1000 per individual or political action committee. The $1000 limit follows the limits set by Wisconsin’s previous public financing laws and falls within guidelines recommended by national groups. Four Suspects Will Be Tried In Hidden Body CaseFour suspects plead 'not guilty' to the charge of hiding a man's body near Red Cloud Park in La Crosse.
The three men and a woman made their pleas this morning before Judge Ramona Gonzalez. They were arrested last month after the body of Anthony Ducharme was found in a wooded area on a hillside. Police believe that Ducharme died after smoking a drug patch with two of the suspects at a house on Wood Street in early August. The men allegedly borrowed a van to take the body to the Indian Hill area, where one defendant threw the corpse down a hill. Good Size Coke Bust In LacrosseAs part of an ongoing drug investigation based off of citizens' tips, the La Crosse Police Department made a significant drug arrest on September 7th. The arrest of 32 year old Darrick Lewis of La Crosse resulted in over $6000 cash and 39 grams of cocaine base being confiscated from the residence of 2020 So. 20th St., La Crosse. This amount of cocaine has the estimated street value of over $3000. |
