If you can't shovel....I won't rent to you....Claims HUD
If your a single woman that can't shovel snow.......you won't get a rental from Dovenberg Investments and property manager Darlene Dovenberg. That's what the the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says happened when a woman tried to rent a property in Bangor from Dovenburg, who's from Lacrosse. Now they are charging her with violating the Fair Housing Act.
During HUD’s investigation, Dovenberg admitted that she believed a single woman would not be able to handle the seclusion and the snow removal, and that she didn’t want the woman calling her all the time to come out to fix things or to plow her out. Dovenberg also told a HUD investigator that she never rents to single women with children, especially not in the country. Dovenberg went on to offer her opinions regarding single women to HUD staff several times during the investigation.
HUD’s charge will be heard by a United States Administrative Law Judge unless any party to the charge elects to have the case heard in federal district court. If the matter is decided in federal court, the judge may also award punitive damages.

Shipping On Miss. Gonna Be RoughWisconsin farm products might have rough sailing when they get shipped down the Mississippi River this fall. Paul Rohde of the Waterways Council, tells WIZM news that high waters and federal budget cuts will put a double-whammy on shipping conditions. Rohde said barges were held up in the spring when three locks and dams near Saint Paul were closed for a couple weeks due to high water. Those problems require dredging to solve but Rohde says the Army Corps of Engineers had a smaller dredging budget this year. Rohde said it doesn't bode well for the Obama administration's goal of doubling U-S exports by 2014. He said the uncertainty of river travel might cause shippers to use other modes of transportation and that could affect commodity prices. Oktoberfest Announcements Open to Public
