Lansing Bridge Closed
Detour at De Soto...
The bridge over the Mississippi between De Soto and Lansing has been closed for emergency repairs. The Iowa D-O-T has found a crack in a floor beam under the bridge deck, during a regular inspection. The closing may last about two or three days. That means people who normally use that bridge will have to go about 30 miles out of their way to cross the river, either at La Crosse or Prairie du Chien.
Claire To Run For 95th AssemblyThere is now a primary set for the 95th State Assembly District....even before the election has been ordered. Lacrosse School Board President, Christine Claire, is the second democrat this week to announce that she is running for the seat. And she says life long hard work has set her path for the run to Madison.
Claire has been with the Lacrosse School Board for the past 11 years....8 of those as President. Back in 2007, Claire retired from the Wisconsin State Public Defender's office after 18 years in that position. She has also served on the Lacrosse County Domestic Violence Court Committee.......The Lacrosse Area Family Policy Board and the Lacrosse County Poverty Task Force. Head of Catholic Schools ResignsDiana Roberts, the Director of the Office of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of La Crosse has Roberts was hired as the assistant director in 1999 and became the director in 2001. As the director she was responsible for the operation of seven unified school systems, with seven high schools and 31 elementary schools; along with 30 independent schools throughout the diocese. During her tenure, Aquinas High School, along with 5 others, were named Blue Ribbon Schools, meaning the were either academically superior or have demonstrated gains in student achievements. In 2008, Aquinas High School along with 2 others, were selected for the National Catholic High School Honor Roll that annually recognizes the 50 best Catholic secondary schools in the United States. Bliss Road Finally Gets A FaceliftConstruction begins today on the portion of Bliss Road that was damaged late last year by flash flooding. The entire roadway will be removed at the construction site and the road will be completely impassable during most of the project. Bliss Road has been closed for the past year, and continues to be closed during construction. This closure applies not only to vehicles, but also to bicycles, pedestrians, and all other unauthorized persons. The police department has been directed to issue citations to persons violating the road closure.
