She claims she wasn't a gang leader or the head of a drug ring, and shouldn't be serving a 15-year prison term.
But a Wisconsin appeals court disagrees with Socorro Kerner of Jackson County, and is upholding her sentence on cocaine and marijuana charges. Kerner and about a dozen other people were busted on drug charges four years ago, in connection with a Jackson County operation that made at least a million dollars. She argues that prosecutors got a long prison term by portraying her as a 'hardened gang member.' The appeals court writes that the sentencing judge imposed the prison time to protect the community from a drug dealer.
Most cities the size of La Crosse, or larger, charge you by the hour to park your car in a ramp.
La Crosse will start using ticket gates in its downtown ramps by April...but parking will still be free for the first four hours during the week, and the first eight hours on weekends. Bob Haines of the city public works office admits that the city is being generous by not charging drivers as soon as they enter the ramps. Haines tells us the long grace period may keep parking revenue down. He thinks the ramps will generate about 25-thousand dollars a year for City Hall.

With the law being blocked by lower-court judges, Wisconsin voters still do not have to show an ID at the polls when they vote.
