Multiple Accidents, Scuffle With Cops, 5th OWI; Rough Week-end for La Crosse Guy
A La Crosse parking cop helped nail a drunk driver this week-end. Police say the off-duty Civilian Service Employee--or, CSE--stopped to help at an accident on the southside on Saturday. Apparently a truck had run into a lawn mower. Dude in the truck, 38 year-old Kim Hebel, took off and the CSE followed him. At one point, cops say Hebel tried to ram the CSE's car. Dispatch got a play by play of the pursuit. County cops eventually nabbed Hebel after he hit two cars. They say he was pretty solidly drunk. He faces a couple hit and run charges and a couple charges for his scuffle with deputies. They say it's also Hebel's fifth OWI.
Spikes Pulled From Rails Stall Train Traffic in La CrosseTrains were running a little late out of La Crosse last night. Blame it on booze. Appears to have at least something to do with why 54 year-old Gregory Davis decided it would be a good idea to pull spikes out of the rail bed by the northside Amtrak station. They say Davis had been drinking when he pulled out up to a dozen rail spikes. Davis told cops he pulled out the spikes because they were loose. He got charged and rail bosses had to shut down all traffic until the spikes were replaced and the tracks were inspected. Man's Body IdentifiedLa Crosse police are now releasing the name of the man found dead near a north-side park last week... The body of 40-year-old Anthony Ducharme of La Crosse was identified by his family this weekend. Police discovered Ducharme's body on Thursday near Red Cloud Park. Investigators believe Ducharme died after taking drugs given to him by others. Four persons are now suspected of trying to hide Ducharme's body, and a fifth could be charged with supplying the drug. Three Accused Of Hiding Man's Body After Drug DeathFor now, they're suspected of hiding the body of a man who died after taking drugs. Three La Crosse residents, including a father and son, made their first court appearance today after being arrested on Thursday. Bond for Christina Lorenz is set at 250-thousand dollars cash. Her co-defendants, Robert and Cain Moss, have slightly lower bonds. The D-A's office says the three gave drugs to the man whose body was hidden near Red Cloud Park yesterday. When the man died suddenly, the suspects apparently had to find a way to dispose of the corpse. Council Member Disappointed in Liquor License DenialHard to run a bar without a liquor license. And, maybe, harder still to fight city hall to get one. Apparently what some potential bar owners felt in La Crosse after the city's plan commission denied the group a license. City council member Andrea Richmond says she was told the denial came because there's just too many bars downtown. A real head-scratcher for Richmond who says a business is a business and if it fills a storefront and attracts people downtown then what's the problem?
Oddly, the denial of a liquor license for Neuie's Downtown happened at the same meeting that another liquor license for downtown was approved. The group who wanted to open the bar have asked that their license application get withdrawn. |
