A woman from Tomah died this morning in a head on crash in Monroe County just after 9. A westbound car on Highway 16 attempted to pass another car coming down a hill. The driver saw traffic coming in the other direction and tried to get back into its lane. The driver lost control, fishtailed and went into the on-coming traffic. The westbound car struck the eastbound car head on.
The passenger of the westbound car, a 49-year-old female from Tomah was pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers in one car were transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital and the driver of the westbound vehicle was taken to the Mayo Health Care System, Sparta for his injuries. The driver of the eastbound car was extricated and transported to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse by Med Link Air. The identities of those involved in the accident are not being released pending notification of family.

Seventeen-year-old Clifton Traywick now admits to crashing a van stolen from a local construction firm into the printing shop. Traywick and a passenger who allegedly stole the vehicle were trying to avoid police the night of December 14th. The van was going about 80 miles an hour before the crash. Traywick said he ran from the scene after the accident, because he didn't have a valid license.
