Livable Neighborhoods Prez Says UWL Ramp Doesn't Solve a ThingOne of the reasons for a new parking ramp getting funded at UW La Crosse: problems with parking in neighborhoods surrounding the universities. And that really is a problem, says Charley Weeth who heads the group, Livable Neighborhoods. But probably won't be helped by a new ramp because it will cost money to park there whereas students and staff pay nothing to park on city streets. Weeth says, really want to help the parking problems around the school? Charge for parking on and off the campus. The governor's new capital budget includes $12 million for a 500 car parking ramp and a university police station at UWL.

Community Emergency Response Training Set in La Crosse CountyPeople living around La Crosse may not have any tsunamis to worry about. But this spring is looking like a humdinger for floods. Timely then, that La Crosse county has set up some Community Emergency Response training for early next month. The training will be held over three days and will involve, among other things, fire safety, emergency medical response, and search and rescue. Because emergency responders might not be able to get everywhere at once during a large-scale emergency, the county says, better to have people all over the county trained on how to help out in their neighborhoods should the worst happen. http://www.alertlacrosse.org.
UWL Gets Parking Ramp, Storage Space in Governor's Capital Spending PlansA 12 million dollar parking ramp for UW La Crosse is part of a billion dollar capital spending plan from Governor Walker. The plan calls for a mixture of borrowing and cash for the five hundred car ramp on the campus that's long been discussed and was recently approved. Along with the ramp will be a new police station for the university police. A million dollar storage facility for the university is also in the governor's spending plan for physical facilities in the state.
