Up to Thirty Billboards Destined for Scrap Heap in La Crosse
Thirty existing billboards may come down in La Crosse under a deal reached by city council members this week. The sign company, Olympus Media, has convinced the council to allow half of the amount of billboards to come down around the city as are supposed to under an ordinance allowing digital signs. Olympus, formerly Collins signs, wants to put up four big digital billboards. Depending on the size of the regular billboards, that could mean anywhere from eight to 30 will have to come down in exchange for the new electric signs.
$4? $5? AAA Wisconsin Says, Hard to PredictIn a few states, gas is already over four dollars a gallon. Wisconsin could be next. And then higher after that. Or maybe not. Really hard to predict, says Pam Moen with the Wisconsin AAA. Gas prices don't always follow a logical progression of supply and demand. She says current prices at the pump have been affected by crude oil prices, spurred higher by unrest in the mideast. She says, if the situation in Libya expands to other parts of the mideast then we could see the upward trend in oil and gas prices continue. But, Moen says, if mideast tensions dissipate, gas prices could recede as fast as they accelerated.

After Fire...Loggers Should Be Ready To GoFire investigators, last August, ruled that a fire that caused extensive damage to a baseball field was an act of arson. 8 months later......work to reconstruct portions of Copeland Park are beginning.
The third base dugout was heavily damaged, along with a large part of the grandstand along the third base line. Lacrosse Loggers GM, Chris Goodell, says work has started to replace burned out portions of grandstands and a new concrete dugout is being built to the replace the wooden one.
Investigators believe the fire was started in a corner of the dugout where paper, plastic, and a towel were started on fire. No one was ever caught for starting the fire. Goodell says all of the construction should be done by the Loggers home opener, June 4th The fire caused $75 thousand in damages. |
