The Senate Health Committee passed bipartisan legislation cosponsored by U.S.
How serious are the drug charges against Eugene Shields of La Crosse?
Serious enough for a judge to set his bond at 100-thousand dollars cash. The D-A's office plans to have a full list of charges ready by Friday. Shields was arrested Monday, after a raid of a building on State Road involving local police and the FBI. Because the drugs found in the building have a street value around 10-thousand dollars, the prosecution said Shields probably has access to plenty of money, so the cash bond should be set high.
With 100-thousand dollars at stake, a couple dozen community groups in the La Crosse area have started working on plans to halt hunger in the region.
Two proposals have been entered in the 'Food For All' competition, sponsored by the Franke Foundation. Franke director Mel Hoffman is pleased that the ideas submitted do not call for creating any new organizations to deal with hunger. The project's goal is to find ways of supplying food to local people who can't get it now. The 100-thousand dollar prize for the best idea will be awarded next March.
