Among the people that were shot at a public appearance by an Arizona Representative Saturday, were friends and constituents of Gabby Giffords. So will that deter people from going out to see elected officials now?

Senator Dan Kapanke of Lacrosse says the voting public should never be afraid of attending public functions that feature those that they voted for.

 

Kapanke says he will not change anything or scale back his public appearances.

He sends his prayers out to the loved ones of those killed and injured in Saturday's tragedy. 

If it looks like a robber, acts like a robber, chances are it's a robber. A clerk at the southside Walgreens had Joseph Strebe pegged as soon as he walked in to the store just after midnight last night. The 19 year-old was wearing a bandanna over his face and the clerk told Strebe it looked as if he was getting ready to rob the place. And he was, police say. Cops say Strebe put a gun to the clerk's neck, demanded money, and when the clerk couldn't get the cash drawer open, Strebe hit him in the head with his gun and demanded cigarettes instead. Cops later found Strebe carrying three cartons of Newports. Nearby, they also collected the bandanna and the gun. it was a BB gun. With no BB's in it apparently.

Tough week-end for the south side Walgreen's in La Crosse. A pharmacy tech got busted on Friday after months, police say, of stealing Oxycodone and Hydrocodone and selling the pills. The 24 year-old told cops she needed to sell the drugs to pay rent. And then there was the armed robbery at the same store right after midnight last night. Cops say a guy came in wearing a bandanna, hit a clerk over the head with a gun and got away with three cartons of cigarettes. Police arrested 19 year-old Joseph Strebe nearby for the robbery.

An armed holdup overnight on West Avenue...

La Crosse police have arrested one person for a robbery at the Walgreen's near Franciscan Skemp. The robbery happened around 1 a-m, and the suspect was captured a short distance from the store.
