Gundersen has new hotel in the works

Written by

Four new hotels are already planned in La Crosse. Gundersen Health System plans to build a fifth. The hospital is putting together plans for a new hotel and restaurant at Seventh Street and South Avenue, which is now a parking lot.

The city will consider a zoning change to pave the way for the hotel at meetings beginning later this month. It is not clear what type of hotel it would be, or how many rooms it would have as plans have yet to be submitted to city hall.

Hotel and restaurant space was part of an updated redevelopment agreement between Gundersen and city hall a few years.  The long range vision of the plan is to foster growth and development of the neighborhood surrounding Gundersen.  Other plans include adding apartment buildings or condos and increasing access to the nearby waterfront, among many other things.
