Huebsch Says Jobs Are Coming
Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch says a new approach is being taken. He says the governor is moving in the direction of providing an enviroment where people want to create jobs and grow and build here.

Cost of Governor's Race in Wisconsin: $37 millionIt takes more than a pretty smile and some snazzy clothes to become governor in Wisconsin. It took Scott Walker $11 million. That's how much the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign says the Republican spent on his campaign to become governor. Over $37 million spent by all candidates and outside groups in the race. And that money, says the Democracy Campaign's Mike McCabe, came from less than one percent of the people in the state. Also, the $37 million is just the documented amount from the race, says McCabe. He thinks there was likely much more than that spent on the governor's race. County Nutritionist On Board with First Lady's Obesity CampaignThe first lady in Washington tends to tackle pet projects. Michelle Obama's had it out for childhood obesity for the last year. La Crosse county nutritionist Linda Lee loves it. Loves that Ms. Obama got Wal-Mart to sell fruits and veggies at a lower price. Loves that she's working on restaurants to offer healthier choices. Though, Lee also thinks demand plays a key role in restaurant decision making. She says, if customers require healthy choices from restaurants and stores, they're likely to get them. So education about healthy eating is also key. Something the first lady can address, says Lee, while using her very high-profile bully pulpit.
Lead Balloon Show Will Be Short One RoscoeIt's not easy, getting up early several days a week to do morning radio...especially if you're in your 80's.
Roscoe Short of La Crosse has had a regular spot on the 'Lead Balloon Show' on WKTY Radio, for about 30 years. But Roscoe says it's time to give up those radio hours. Roscoe announced his surprise retirement from the radio show today. He still tends bar once a week at the Vogue, the north-side tavern started by his family just after Prohibition. Loggers and City Still at the Table, Ten Year Minimum Lease Extension WantedThe La Crosse Loggers probably don't want to be paying for lights that they're not using.
One of the reasons the team's looking for another ten year lease--at least--at Copeland Park. They won't have lights purchased for the city park paid off until then.
Loggers general manager Chris Goodell says they want ten years plus. He says the organization would love to be at Copeland much longer than that. Lease negotiations between the city and the team have been going on for months. Another meeting tonight. The team's original lease at Copeland expires after next year's season. |
