Can the La Crosse Police Department assign more officers to work the neighborhoods?

It would be tough to do right now, according to Police Chief Ron Tischer. The chief tells the city's neighborhood revitalization commission that there are neighborhood watch programs in place now, but he says most officers are needed to handle drug and gang investigations. Tischer says other law enforcement agencies in the area might be asked to help coordinate better neighborhood enforcement.

DOJ Crackdown On Child Prostitution

Written by

The state Department of Justice says 10 children have been rescued and 100 suspects have been arrested in Wisconsin as part of a nationwide, child sex trafficking crackdown led by the FBI.

Nationally, the FBI says it has rescued 105 children who were forced into prostitution in the United States and arrested 150 people it described as pimps and others in a series of raids in 76 American cities.

The Wisconsin crackdown was done in and around Milwaukee, Madison, Wisconsin Dells and the Fox Valley. Fifteen agents from the Wisconsin DOJ and officers from 14 local law enforcement agencies participated in the three-day crackdown, known as "Operation Cross Country."

The FBI says the victims, almost all girls, range in age from 13 to 17.

All the witnesses have been called in a La Crosse murder trial...meaning that the defendant will not be on the stand.

The defense for Jeffrey Lepsch presented only two witnesses ...Lepsch's wife and mother, who both said that he is not a violent person. Lepsch is accused of killing Paul and A.J. Petras at their camera store in La Crosse during a robbery last fall. The prosecution had more testimony today about finding items stolen from May's Photo at Lepsch's home. Closing arguments will be presented to the jury on Tuesday.

Surveyor Scammers In La Crosse County

Written by

On Wednesday La Crosse County Sheriff’s Deputies took a complaint from the small community of Stevenstown, located in La Crosse County between Holmen and Mindoro.

The victim indicated that two subjects, both male/white in their late 20s, approached the residence and posed as surveyors. One man convinced the victim to show him the residence’s lot lines, while the other male subject entered the residence and searched through drawers. However, the victim did not notice anything missing from the house after the subjects left.

The two subjects were driving a full-size, white SUV. Please be on the lookout for this type of scam. If anyone has any further information, call the Sheriff’s Department.
