A leader of the 7 Rivers LGBT Resource Center in La Crosse is 'elated' by a Supreme Court ruling nullifying part of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Agency director Cindy Killion says same-sex couples who get married in Iowa and Minnesota will be covered by federal benefits offered to straight couples.  The benefits would still be provided to married gay couples in Wisconsin, if they were married in a state where those weddings are performed.  Killion still hopes to change the gay marriage ban in Wisconsin, although that would involve multiple sessions of the Legislature.
