Future Deer Hunts Much Like This One?
Judge Scolded In Letter For Keeping Indra Book Out Of PrisonThe continuing court saga of Indra Book has prompted at least one person to complain to the La Crosse judge handling the case.
Book is on probation for the starvation death of her baby daughter, but she was arrested again last week for violating that probation. An anonymous letter mailed to Judge Scott Horne calls the judge 'incompetent,' and tells him to put Book in prison because 'we don't need baby killers...running the streets.' The letter was mailed just after Book's latest arrest for carrying synthetic pot and skipping a mandatory breath test. The arrest came a few days after Horne warned the 22-year-old woman that she would go to prison if she didn't change her behavior. Local Deer Harvest TotalsFor some area counties, there wasn't much of a bump from last year's nine-day gun deer harvest totals in Wisconsin. Overall, the DNR says, state harvest is up 11 percent over last year's abysmal totals. But in La Crosse county, the total harvest number was actually down slightly from last season. In Vernon county, the total shrank by more than one percent. Jackson total, down by four percent. Nearly ten percent down in Monroe county. Trempealeau county deer harvest totals increased by four percent.
Rockslide Cleanup Done At GenoaHe can't guarantee that it won't happen again...
But Wisconsin D-O-T maintenance specialist Pete Strachan says the Thanksgiving rockslide near Genoa was much bigger than the normal slides in the area. Strachan says boulders the size of a pickup tumbled onto Highway 35. The road was blocked for most of Thanksgiving morning, and some stones knocked out power lines in Vernon County. On Monday, highway workers finished the job of breaking up those rocks and hauling them away. Strachan gives credit to Vernon and Crawford Counties and to Xcel Energy for their quick response to the rockslide and power outage. No Call Deadline TonightThe next deadline to register for Wisconsin's no-call list to block calls from telemarketers is tonight at 11:59.
