The next deadline to register for Wisconsin's no-call list to block calls from telemarketers is tonight at 11:59.

Those who sign up through the day will have their phone numbers put on the list starting January 1st. The next chance to sign up won't place numbers on the list until April 1st.

The list is open to home and cell numbers, but registration must be renewed every two years. Anyone who has forgotten when they signed up can sign up again to be safe. More than 2.2 million numbers are on the list. That is the most since the program began in 2003. Nearly half of the numbers registered in this year's fourth quarter were cell numbers.

In this day and age of school districts trying to find more and more extra monies......it would seem odd not to charge activity and athletic fees to bolster the school's coffers. If you look at some districts around the state.....they charge $300 for High School.....$200 for Middle School and some a $500 Family Cap.

But the question is..........who can afford that anymore. One reason the Lacrosse School District charges their students nothing to participate in plays or sports.

 

Matter of fact it's like that throughout the MVC. Logan A.D. Steve Hole says a great booster club.....team fundraisers and strong district budgets have been the keys to helping students "not have to sit on the sidelines" and watch.

The Gundersen Lutheran nursing family recently kicked off its fifth annual blanket drive titled, “Wrapping the Community in Warmth.” The nursing sponsored blanket drive, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Western Campus for Nursing and Gundersen Lutheran Partners, runs from now until Jan. 14, to help many local organizations during the winter season including the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, New Horizons, Birth Right, St. Clare Health Mission, Community Liaison, Gerard Hall, Houston County Women’s Resource Center and Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation.

 

 

Renewable energy is all the rage for Xcel energy in Wisconsin. Or, it was, anyway. The energy company has pulled the plug on a renewable energy production project in north Wisconsin. Xcel had originally intended to build a biomass gasification plant in one of three units at the company's Bay Front Power Plant. But higher costs and uncertainty about future regulations were among the variables that led to the project getting shelved. Xcel will still burn biomass in a more conventional process at the plant's remaining two units.
