Rockslide Cleanup Done At Genoa
But Wisconsin D-O-T maintenance specialist Pete Strachan says the Thanksgiving rockslide near Genoa was much bigger than the normal slides in the area. Strachan says boulders the size of a pickup tumbled onto Highway 35. The road was blocked for most of Thanksgiving morning, and some stones knocked out power lines in Vernon County.
On Monday, highway workers finished the job of breaking up those rocks and hauling them away. Strachan gives credit to Vernon and Crawford Counties and to Xcel Energy for their quick response to the rockslide and power outage.
No Call Deadline TonightThe next deadline to register for Wisconsin's no-call list to block calls from telemarketers is tonight at 11:59.
No Fees HereIn this day and age of school districts trying to find more and more extra monies......it would seem odd not to charge activity and athletic fees to bolster the school's coffers. If you look at some districts around the state.....they charge $300 for High School.....$200 for Middle School and some a $500 Family Cap.
But the question is..........who can afford that anymore. One reason the Lacrosse School District charges their students nothing to participate in plays or sports.
Matter of fact it's like that throughout the MVC. Logan A.D. Steve Hole says a great booster club.....team fundraisers and strong district budgets have been the keys to helping students "not have to sit on the sidelines" and watch. Gunderson Lutheran Blanket DriveThe Gundersen Lutheran nursing family recently kicked off its fifth annual blanket drive titled, “Wrapping the Community in Warmth.” The nursing sponsored blanket drive, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Western Campus for Nursing and Gundersen Lutheran Partners, runs from now until Jan. 14, to help many local organizations during the winter season including the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, New Horizons, Birth Right, St. Clare Health Mission, Community Liaison, Gerard Hall, Houston County Women’s Resource Center and Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation.
Help them reach our goal of 1,000 blankets by dropping off new or gently used blankets at any local Gundersen Lutheran Medical or Eye Clinic, at one of the valet parking locations on the Gundersen Lutheran campus in La Crosse or at a special community collection on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Shopko parking lot in Onalaska. For more information contact the Gundersen Lutheran Department of Nursing Practice at (608) 775-7341.
Part of Renewable Portfolio for Xcel ShelvedRenewable energy is all the rage for Xcel energy in Wisconsin. Or, it was, anyway. The energy company has pulled the plug on a renewable energy production project in north Wisconsin. Xcel had originally intended to build a biomass gasification plant in one of three units at the company's Bay Front Power Plant. But higher costs and uncertainty about future regulations were among the variables that led to the project getting shelved. Xcel will still burn biomass in a more conventional process at the plant's remaining two units.
