Mayo Begins Construction

Construction will begin soon to expand more parking opportunities at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. Crews will begin closing off Parking Lot #2 which is located south of the Cancer & Surgery Center beginning June 2nd. Completion of the project is projected to be July 18th.

 

Plans include raising the parking lot to street level, while adding additional parking spots. This will allow easier access for patients and visitors while enhancing the overall patient experience at the facility.

 

During this construction period, Mayo Clinic Health System will offer more golf cart services between lots and building entrances to help patients and visitors easy door to door access to any of our buildings. Those cart rides will be made available between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

Visitors to the facility should use either Lot #3 or Lot #10 during this construction period. Those lots are located between the Clinic and Jackson Street. Both lots are accessible from both 10th and 11th Streets. Handicap and special needs parking will be in the rows nearest to the Clinic building in Lot #3.

 

Because of this construction, we ask that you plan an extra 20 to 30 minutes of travel time to your appointment to allow for parking and transport to each building entrance. If visitors need a ride back to their vehicle after their visit, please notify door personal at each entrance and they will assist in any transportation needs.

Drunk Sparta Man Brings Out Swat Team

The Monroe County Tactical Team was called out late Friday to the report of a man who was drunk and pointing a rifle at Sparta Police.   Cops say 33 year old Phillip Smith was told several times by area law enforcement to come out of his house. He then threatened to shoot police and anyone that came near his house. He also said he would kill himself.   After several hours, police shot smoke grenade canisters into the house, forcing Smith out. Once outside the home, police shot him with bean bags. Smith faces a bevy of charges when he appears in a courtroom Monday morning.

Almost O.D. In Mo Co

A 24 year old Norwalk man is recovering in the Monroe County Jail after nearly dieing of a drug overdose. Jacob Kotten was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was found unconscious in his vehicle off of Highway 16.

Police believe Kotten’s vehicle came out of the Kwik Trip parking lot on the corner of Highways 16 and 71 in reverse, crossed Highway 16 and into the culvert. Cops found a syringe, spoon and cotton ball in Kotten’s pocket. They say he was clinging to life.

Kotten admitted to using heroin in the Kwik Trip before driving. He was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Jail.
