Six months after a deadly plane crash near Caledonia, investigators still have not determined the probable cause for the accident.
Three men died and a fourth was injured when their Piper plane crashed on November 1st, apparently while trying to land at the Houston County airport. According to the preliminary report issued shortly after the accident, the plane's right wing hit the ground first. The men aboard the plane had taken off from Detroit, and were headed to a hunting trip in South Dakota. Federal investigators often wait about six months after a plane crash to file a probable cause report, but reports on fatal accidents generally take longer.

Two people are dead after a two car head on collision Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred on State Highway 35 approximately one mile south of Stoddard in the Town of Bergen around 3:20.
A car driven by 70 year old Robert Williams of Stoddard went to pass the car in front of him and struck a southbound vehicle head-on, driven by 55 year old Margaret Springborn of rural DeSoto.
Robert was pronounced dead on scene by the Vernon County Coroner’s Office. Springborn was taken to Gundersen Health System in Lacrosse and later pronounced dead.
The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.

But that campaign now has been shot down in court. A La Crosse judge has ruled that language in the town's petition was not clear enough about what property would be included in a proposed Village of Midway. The ruling pleases the village of Holmen, which went to court to fight Onalaska's move, because it wants to annex some of the same land. On Friday, the Onalaska Town Board will have a special meeting to review the court ruling.
Vernon County had gone almost four full months into 2014 without a highway death.
But now, three people have been killed in Vernon County accidents in the last nine days. Two drivers died Tuesday in a head-on collision, on Highway 35 south of Stoddard. Seventy-year-old Robert Williams of Stoddard was killed when he tried passing a car and hit another vehicle head-on. The driver of that other car, 55-year-old Margaret Springborn of De Soto, died after being taken to Gundersen in La Crosse. The afternoon crash tied up traffic on 35 for several hours.
