Two years ago, an SUV crashed into an apartment building on French Island, and the vehicle's owner was charged with driving drunk for the sixth time.

Nancy Wall's case went to trial, but the charges were dropped after Wall objected to an opening statement which revealed to the jury that she was a repeat offender. The state of Wisconsin appealed the dismissal, and an appeals court agrees that Wall could be brought to trial again in the case. The appeals judges decided the prosecutor did make a mistake by referring to Wall's past record, but was not trying to get the case thrown out so it could go to trial a second time.

A prize of 100-thousand dollars will be awarded in La Crosse tonight...

The money will be presented to one of two groups that came up with plans for fighting hunger in the La Crosse area. The contest, called the Coulee Collaboration, was announced over a year ago by the Franke Charitable Foundation. Its goal is to get many community organizations to pool their talents, and figure out ways to provide food to needy local residents. While only one group could win the grant money, foundation director Mel Hoffman says ideas offered by the losing group could become part of the hunger-fighting project.
