About four times a year, La Crosse County schedules special medication collections, so people can throw out their old medicines safely.

The first collection for 2013 happens this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the hazardous disposal site on Highway 16. Randy Nederlo with La Crosse County says most of the things dropped off during those special collections are typical drugstore products.  But about 10 per cent of them are more hazardous controlled drugs. Collections also are planned for April, August, and maybe November.
