Oli From Train Leaks Near Winona

Written by

WINONA, Minn. (AP) The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is investigating after a Canadian Pacific Railway train dribbled about 12 thousand gallons of crude oil between Winona and Red Wing in southeastern Minnesota.

MPCA spokeswoman Cathy Rofshus says no major cleanup is planned because the oil splattered between the tracks as the train was moving Monday. She says responders have not found any pools of oil that could be cleaned up. Crews discovered the leak before noon Monday near Winona. It involved less than half the contents of a typical tanker car, which holds about 26 thousand gallons.

The leak was traced to a valve or cap problem. Canadian Pacific spokesman Ed Greenberg says the railroad is investigating the cause and will cooperate fully with any cleanup efforts if they're required.

Obi Christenson.........A Winner........Period!

Written by

He didn't really win, but thanks to an outpouring of support and a push from a famous Green Bay Packer, an 8 year old La Crescent boy's designs will be seen all over the world. In the end, he did win.

Obi Christenson, a little boy who suffers from neuroblastoma cancer, entered the White Cloud Tissue Miracle Designs contest.  The top three selected designs will appear on White Cloud facial tissue boxes. The designs were submitted to Facebook and the nation had to vote for their favorities. Even future Hall of Fame Quaterback, Brett Favre, on his website, had a message looking for support for Obi. But at the end of the contest, Obi finished in fourth place by 82 votes. But a loss by Obi was not in the cards.

The little girl that took third place in the contest, posted a message on the White Cloud Facebook page saying that she would prefer the company to award third place to Obi instead.  And win he did. White Cloud decided to make Obi an honorary fourth place finisher.  Now, Obi along with the other three winners, will have their designs featured on the tissue boxes. They will also receive a one year supply of White Cloud products, and they have earned a $15 thousand donation to their Children's Miracle Network Hospital, which in Obi's case, is Gunderson Health System in La Crosse.

White Cloud made the announcement on their Facebook page.
