The La Crosse Police Department in conjunction with the Department of Criminal Investigations continue to investigate both the drive by shooting on La Crosse's north side and the Sara Hougom homicide from March 26th. Currently there is no one in custody and no one has been charged in either incident. The investigation, however, has made progress. Investigators have identified people of interest, some of which have been interviewed and some that are yet to be located. La Crosse police say the investigation is at a critical juncture and releasing additional information could compromise the progress being made.
More news coming from Oktoberfest. Mitch Reynolds is at the southside fest grounds.
If Oktoberfest needs more sources of funding, how about issuing permits for spots along the parade routes?
La Crosse Mayor Matt Harter says it's an idea worth studying...and such a permit might allow the holder to drink openly at the parade site, which is not allowed now. Harter suggests a permit fee of around $5 to $10. He brought up the permit idea during an appearance today on "The Morning Sickness" on 95-7 The Rock.
Cookouts will be allowed in Stoddard for Easter weekend, but other outdoor burning in the village is banned until further notice.
The Stoddard-Bergen Fire Department has declared an outdoor fire ban for that area because of the continuing dry weather. The one exception will be for charcoal grills at private homes, and the grills have to be on surfaces like concrete that won't catch on fire.
All 3 parades for this year's Oktoberfest in La Crosse will be held....but there are some stipulations coming along with that. Executive Director Tina Severson.
Severson says Oktoberfest will provide additional volunteers and paid security and because of that, the La Crosse Police Department has dropped their parade fees from $18 thousand to $10 thousand. The Oktoberfest Board will cancel non public events.....decrease advertising and public relations and will decrease expenses to public events. A community partner has also been chosen.....who that is will be revealed at 2 this afternoon.
