I-90 Bridge Worker Hurt In Fall

Written by

A construction worker at the Dresbach bridge project is being treated in La Crosse after a fall...

We're told that the man fell at least 20 feet into water at a cofferdam on the Mississippi, around 9 o'clock this morning.  He was ferried from the dam area to the Minnesota bank of the river, where an ambulance transported the man to Gundersen in La Crosse. Firefighters from La Crescent and French Island took part in the rescue effort.

Last March, a gun accidentally went off in a La Crosse apartment, and a bullet passed through the neck of a man standing nearby.

Miraculously, that man was not seriously hurt. But there's no such miracle for the other man who was playing around with the gun. William Petty of La Crosse is headed to prison for seven years, for reckless use of a weapon he wasn't supposed to be handling...because of a previous conviction.

Petty denied the claim of a police detective that he moved from Milwaukee to La Crosse to sell drugs, with the intent of 'running this town.'
