UW-L Political Professor, Joe Heim, says the announcement today by the GAB that recall elections have been ordered, was very anti-climatic. And he feels that if Governor Scott Walker were to win a recall election...it won't be a slam dunk for him to do so.
Heim says it's very hard to determine which political polls to watch since this will be a very different type of election.
The presidential primary Tuesday is later then it has ever been before. And that makes coming up with a voter turnout percentage a bit harder, according to La Crosse County Clerk, Ginny Denkmeyer.
She is guessing about a 35% voter turnout.
The Republican Party of Wisconsin plans on running protest candidates in recall elections. Republican Party of Wisconsin Executive Director Stephan Thompson released a statement on the decision to run protest candidates. He says that in an effort to ensure election fairness, the Republican Party has recruited protest candidates to run in all of the upcoming recall elections. The protest candidates will run as Democrats to guarantee that there is one clear date for the primary election and one clear date for the general election. Thompson says the Republican Party will not actively campaign for the protest candidates, other than collecting nomination signatures to ensure their place on the ballot. Thompson adds that without protest candidates, the Democratic Party would be able to control the dates in which Republican officials face election, potentially separating the elections for State Senate and Lieutenant Governor from the Governor.
(AP) A recall election has been officially ordered against embattled first-term Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker after more than 900,000 signatures were collected on petitions to force a vote. The Government Accountability Board voted 5-0 Friday to order the recall against the Republican, a move that's been expected for weeks given the high number of signatures gathered between November and January. It took 540,208 signatures to trigger a recall. If a Democratic primary is necessary, it will be May 8. The actual recall vote then will be June 5. Walker was targeted for recall after he pushed through a law last year that effectively ended collective bargaining rights for most state workers. There have been only two successful recalls of governors in U.S. history.
