Central, Aquinas Get Rent Break At UWL Stadium

Written by

A couple of local football teams will get a financial break, while they continue to play on their long-time turf...

The rent for Central and Aquinas to play ball games at the U-W-L stadium has been cut by 30 per cent, under a new 10-year agreement between the three schools. La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat is happy to see the university and the high schools cooperating.

The high school sports programs were concerned about steep increases in rent for Memorial Field in recent years. The current cost for renting the football field for a night is 22-hundred dollars.

The Oktoberfest beginning Friday in La Crosse marks the end of an era...

The 53rd Fest will be the last one that follows the nine-day schedule introduced in 2000. Next year, Oktoberfest will be one long weekend, Thursday through Sunday. But retiring Festmaster Brad Sturm points out that even if the official festival is shorter in the future, the festival's royal family will continue a week-long schedule of traditional events, including visits to schools and nursing homes.

Sturm says he and his frau Lynn have tried to 'have fun' throughout their year as reigning Oktoberfest royals. The name of Sturm's successor will be revealed at Friday's Festmaster's Ball.
