Cain Moss is now scheduled to be tried this June for the drug overdose death of Tony Du Charme in 2011. Jury selection had been set for next Monday, but the D.A.'s office hasn't received certain evidence back from the state crime lab. Moss was arrested in August of 2011, just after Du Charme's body was found hidden on a hillside. It's not certain yet whether Christina Lorenz will be called as a witness against Moss. Lorenz is serving prison time for her role in taking drugs with Du Charme the day he died.
While much of Wisconsin's population will be cheering on high school basketball teams at state this weekend, a much quieter state contest happens in Madison the day after the WIAA finals conclude.
The state finals of Mock Trial for this year include teams from 12 schools, including La Crosse Logan. Attorney Keith Belzer, one of Logan's coaches, says that since Logan went to state two years ago, Mock Trial has gotten more attention at the north-side school. Belzer says Central was the leading Mock Trial school in the area until just a few years ago. The state winner will go to Indiana in May for the national finals.

Houston County commissioners have voted today to continue a ban on sand mining until next March, because they want more time to study the effect of mining on health and public safety. A resolution continuing the moratorium says that the ban could be extended again a year from now, or it could be ended sooner if the county decides to allow mining.
