La Crosse's State Senator Among Big Majority Voting for Texting Ban
First battle won for those pushing a texting while driving ban in Wisconsin. The state senate has voted to make texting illegal for all drivers. Although state senator Dan Kapanke seems to admit the bill doesn't exactly fill a giant void in Wisconsin statutes because there are some redundancies with the state's current inattentive driving rules. But Kapanke, who voted for the texting while driving ban, says once the issue came up in the senate, it would have been difficult to turn away from a ban. He says that action may have sent the message that texting while driving wasn't that big of a concern among lawmakers.
